Hello everybody,
today I'll talk about the new set, Throne of Eldraine, with the 10 cards that I expect would be played in Modern/Legacy.
Royal Scions
Man, i really like this. Could be a boost for URx strategy, giving you card quality, lower clock or, with ultimate, great draw engine. In a grixis shell with Dreadhorde Arcanist, this could be great.
Drown in the Loch
Well, I really like this, because it's strong against aggro, midrange and control. In standard it's hard to get it online on turn 2, but in modern and legacy, with a lot of fetches, is more simple. Moreover, with black you've access to a discard package, that sinergize very well with this. I think that this would be a staple in all UBx Midrange deck.
Once upon a Time
This is another great card from this set! This card can improve al G based deck with card quality, letting you to keep not optimal hand. I think that this would see play in Legacy, in BG Slow Depths.
Hushbringer
I think that this card has a great potential! Shutdown etb is good, but shutdown dying trigger is a nice plus for this card. Is great against Humans, Death & Taxes, UW control/stoneblade, Eldratron, so you have to take it!
Brazen Borrower
This is an excellent tempo card! Bounce + 3/1 at instant speed is no joking, moreover you can have more than one on the battlefield (yeah Vendilion, I'm talking to you). I think that this card could be paired with Royal Scions, for creating an interesting URx tempo for Modern.
Emry, Lurker of the Loch
This, plus Jeskai Ascendacy and some cmc0 artifact that could be destroyed (Mishra's Bauble or double Mox Opale) is combo the let you get an infinite/infinite, with infinite casts and etb! Even without the combo, is a nice engine value for artifacts deck, and for a single U, I would try her!
Merchant of the Vale
This could be fine in Dredge, discard and the draw let you to discard and rebuy a dredge card putting a lot of card in the graveyard and start all that dredge things!
Mystic Santuary
Well, a fetchable land with really powerful effect, that could create loop wit Cryptic Command is no joke, so this surely would be seen in UWx control/midrange shell.
Oko, Thief of Crowns
Turn 2 Biterblossom into t3 Oko is no joke, turning Batterkull's germ into a 3/3, than swinging for 7 is absolutely good. With ultimate you can steal some nice creature, like Scanvenging Ooze, Matter Reshaper, all the red and white creture from Burn and Death & Taxes, so I think that would be some nice Sultai shells that are going to include this
Charming Prince
The last one is the Charming Prince. This card could be played in some blink deck, like Jeskai Saheeli, because all the 3 effects are rilevant, smoothing the draw thanks to scry 2, letting you to search for combo pieces, gain 3 against all the aggro decks and blink effect to get value from other creature (for example, Snapcaster Mage). Moreover, this could be paired with Felidar Guardian and Saheeli Rai to get more value, and with CMC2 fits very well in the curve.
Final Thoughts
I think that these 10 cards are the best cards for Modern/Legacy, improving some already existent decks or letting you to create some new archetype, in fact I think that could be created a nice Grixis tempo deck with Royal Scions, Drown in the Loch and Brazen Borrower.
