4c Stoneblade [Modern]

Hello everybody,

after testing a lot Esper Stoneblade, I've found that we need another 2 mana threat. After some testing and research, I've found that we need to add another color (green) to add Tarmogoyf!

Decklist

Main Board

Side Board

Here you can find an importable decklist

Let's explain this!

Firstly, we have the 1 mana drops in form of 6 removal and 6 discard spells. In this way you're pretty sure to disrupt your opponent plan and play relatively safe your 2 mana threat.

Then we have our 2 mana threat, 4 Stoneforge Mystic and 4 Tarmogoyf. Turn 2 Mystic into turn 3 Batterskull is what you want to do like the 99% of the times, keep your life high while hitting your opponent life is pretty strong in this meta. Moreover, we have 4 Tarmogoyf to be sure that we can play a 2 mana threat that can stall the board against aggro and can hit the life against control. Then we have 2 Snapcaster Mage because we're pretty low on instant and sorcery (14) and 2 Drown in the Loch, one of the my favourite card. It's good against control and aggro, so for me is an auto include.

Moving on 3 mana drops, we have 2 Skyclave Apparition, to deal against creature and planeswalker; 3 Spell Queller to interact in your opponent turn with counter and clock; 2 Kaya's Guile because getting life back, exiling graveyard, get soem token and killing a creature is pretty strong and never dead. Lastly we have 2 Teferi, Time Raveler. I really love it in this deck because it sinergizes very well with your discard spells in 2 ways: bouncing back the legal permanent then discard it or you can play your discard spell in your opponent draw step. Moreover, you can bounce your own Spell Queller for exiling your opponent spell forever. Then we have the equipment package in form of Batterskull and Sword of Fire and Ice. I prefer it because i prefer to lower the clock and get real Card Advantage instead of getting the Tempo Advantage and virtual Card Advantage provided by Sword of Feast and Famine. As last spell, we have 2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor as wincon B in stalled board or as Card Advantage engine in other game state.

In the sideboard we found 4 Veil of Summer against UW Control, Jund Death's Shadow, "Normal" Jund, etc.., because in this matchup you need to win with Card Advantage. Then we have another Path to Exile, Celestial Purge and Timely Reinforcements against Aggro. Then we have 2 Disdainful Stroke and 2 Damping Sphere against Tron, 2 Nihil Spellbomb against Dredge and 2 Spell pierce in case of emergency.

How to play

You want to keep an hand that can do something on turn 1 and turn 2, so always keep an hand with 3 lands, a discard/removal and a Tarmo/Mystic. After this first assesment, you need to know if you're the control or the aggro in the match, so if you're the control, firstly disrupt your opponent plan, then you need to close the game as soon as possibile. Otherwise, play you're main threat if you can protect it and then just keep your mana open.

Final Thoughts

I'm really appreciating the deck, because it's a midrange/tempo deck that can win the game really fast, or can play a longer game with a lot of 2x1 cards.

How do you feel about it? Are you going to give it a shot?

Regards

Vito
