Report Arcana Legacy League with UW Stoneblade @Milan

Updated: Sep 26, 2019

Hello everybody,

today I will tell you what I did on the event of 15/09/2019, the was a 6-turn swiss tournament plus top 8, organized by my friends Gus & Ema .

I was playing this list of UW Stoneblade:

UW Stoneblade

1st turn: Sneak & Show (2-1)

G1: Was a really long game, my opponent mulled to five and he was starting. In EOT of my 2nd turn my opponent played a Cunning Wish and i kept my FoW, and he took Through the Breach. In his turn 3 he played Through the Breach and i countered it with FoW pitching a Jace. Then on my turn 3 I played Narset that stopped all his cantrips. Then I played Snapcaster that started the beatdown, I played Jace TMS that started value engine, then my opponent scooped up

Side Out: 4 Swords to Plowshares; 2 Council Judgement; 1 Umezawa's Jitte; 1 Stoneforge Mystic

Side In: 1 Teferi, Time Raveler; 1 Blue Elemental Blast; 1 Flusterstorm; 1 Containment Priest; 1 Dovin's Veto; 1 Celestial Purge; 1 Disenchant; 1 Vendilion Clique

G2: In this game I mulled to 5, and I found my first threat really late. In this time my opponent was able to find Boseju and the he played uncounterable Show and Tell putting Omniscience. With that enchantment in the game he "casted" Emrakul and he won the game

G3: In this game I was able to land an early threat in form of SFM plus Batterskull. The turn after my opponent went tapped out for casting Sneak Attack; I tried to Force it but he Forced my Force and went with 1 card in hand. In my turn, then, I was able to destroy that with my disenchant. After that, my oppponent wasn't able to recover from that.

2nd Turn: ANT (0-2)

G1: Well, there isn't much to say, my opponent comboed off at turn 2 through a Force of Will

Side Out: 2 Swords to Plowshares; 2 Council Judgement; 1 Umezawa's Jitte

Side In: 1 Flusterstorm; 1 Dovin's Veto; 1 Celestial Purge; 1 Disenchant; 1 Vendilion Clique

G2: Again, there isn't much to say, my opponent comboed off at turn 2 and i didn't find any piece of to disupt the combo

3rd Turn: Turbo Depths (0-2)

G1: My opponent did the 20/20 at turn 2 and in my hand I didn't had any response to it. I was able to stay alive for 2 turn (I had BS on the board), but I didnt' find any response

Side Out: 2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor; 2 Narset, Parte of Veils

Side In: 1 Disenchant, 1 Celestial Purge, 2 Back to Basics

G2: I kept a hand without removal and my opponent punished me again with a turn 2 20/20

4th Turn: BR Reanimator (2-1)

G1: My opponent played Unmask to himself for discarding a Griselbrand, then he played a Reanimate. I was able to Force it. Then he played an exhume and started with draw engine in form of Griselbrand. I wasn't able to manage Griselbrand and then G1 ended in this way.

Side Out: 1 Ponder; 2 Jace,the Mind Sculptor; 1 Umezawa's Jitte; 1 Stoneforge Mystic

Side In: 1 Celestial Purge; 1 Containment Priest; 2 Surgical Extraction; 1 Teferi, Time Raveler

G2: My opponent, again, tried to combo off with Entomb + Reanimate & Griselbrand. Luckily I drew with brainstorm a surgical and then i was able to manage his first threat. Then i was able to set up my hand with CJ, Jace and a Batterskull. On my opponent's third turn, he was ablo to reanimate a sire of insanity and I had to discard all my cards. The first card that I drew was a FoW, that i discarded, then the second card that i drew was a ponder that revelead me an island, a plains and a snapcaster, then I choose the risky plan to go for snapcaster council judgment in the next 2 turns. I made the right choise, because in my opponent deck there wasn't so many threat anymore (only the angel) and with a snapcaster I started the beat to death.

G3: My opponent managed to play an early Griselbrand that I was able to manage thanks to Plow, but my opponent drew 7 and discarded a Griselbrand. Then my opponent was able to play an unmask that discarded my TNN, the he went for another griseblrand with another reanimate. I didn't found any solution then i received an attack from griselbrand and my opponent drew another 7. After that attack, i was able to land a teferi that bounced Griselbrand. After this, my opponent was on 6, he choose to play an exhume for reanimating his angel, but i had a TNN on graveyard and i was at 7 life, and in 2 turn my TNN closed the game.

5th Turn: UR Delver (2-0)

G1: My opponent started with 2 Delver, that didn't flip because my opponent was really unlucky and drew a lot of creatures (2 Dreadhorde Arcanist and a Young Pyromancer). I used my Plow on that creature, because they are a very strong value engine, instead of Delver that is "only" a 3/2 flying at best. When the delvers flipped, i was able to play a Batterskull, so my race was stronger. After some turns of stall, i drew a TNN and then was gg

Side Out: 4 Force of Will; 1 Force of Negation

Side In: 1 Hydroblast; 1 Dovins Veto; 1 Teferi, Time Raveler; 1 Celestial Purge; 1 Supreme Verdict

G2: My opponent started with an early Delver that started the beat. After some turns i was able to plow it. Then my opponent played a TNN and a Pyromancer that i removed from board with Supreme verdict. After that, i played TNN protected with Hydroblast and Dovin's Veto and then I started the beat to death.

6th Turn: Mono Red Prison (2-1)

G1: Was a really long game, but I was able to manage all lock pieces of my opponent thanks to counters and Teferi. After that my opponent finished the gas, I was able to make a really big strike for 12 damage (he had a bridge on board) that stolen the game.

Side Out: 4 Force of Will

Side In: 1 Disenchant; 1 Celestial Purge; 1 Hydroblast; 1 Teferi, Time Raveler

G2: Here there's not much to say, he played triple Sin Prodder that made a tons of value.

G3: Here I was able to manage all of his threats in form of Chalice, Trinisphere and Chandra with a Spell Snare, Disenchant and Spell Pierce. Then I played a Jace, that lead me to win with his ultimate.

Final Thoughts

Well, I think that UW Stoneblade is well positioned in the actual meta because it's worst matchup (Miracles and Grixis Control) are less played than before, so i think that is the best time to sleeve your Mystic for playing some Legacy tournaments

Regards

Vito
